Hello, People of WordPress, I have exciting news and updates for you in this February 2023 roundup!

In the previous roundup, we got WordPress 2023 plans, WordPress 6.2 announcement, and much more.

The month of February in WordPress brings 6.2 beta releases and RC1 release, two new versions of Gutenberg, Upcoming WordCamp updates, and much more.

WordPress 6.2 all set for RC1

  • The beta versions of WordPress 6.2 released, and preparations are underway for the Release Candidate 1.
  • After the launch of Release Candidate 1, the Field Guide with Dev Notes will be published, the draft for the release post will begin, and a hard string freeze and branch for the release will be implemented.

WordPress 6.2 Product Demo

  • Explore all the features in WordPress 6.2. Joining the event taking place Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 10:30 PM GMT +5:30.
  • This is slightly different from the previous 6.0 and 6.1 walk-throughs, this will showcase all the great work that’s gone into the release.
  • Event is open to the general public and will be recorded. Add this event to your timeline.

Gutenberg Updates

  • Gutenberg 15.1 released on 8 February 2023. This release integrates the Openverse to the media inserter, brings new shadow effect presets to Global Styles, ability to add custom CSS for single blocks, ‘paste style’ option, featured image resizing options, and much more.
  • Gutenberg 15.2 released on 22 February 2023. This version brings highly requested improvements to the template editing experience, providing users with a more efficient and intuitive editing process with better controls. Notable additions to this update include improved accessibility and additional control support for blocks.

Openverse with Nappy

  • Openverse’s catalog now includes Nappy. It is a stock photo initiative committed to improving the representation of Black and Brown people in visual media.
  • Explore Nappy’s free-to-use photos.
